Qualitative research data also includes respondents’ opinions and feelings, which is conducted face-to-face mostly in focus groups. Quantitative data is also assimilated from research experiments. While conducting experiments, researchers focus on exploring one or more independent variables and studying their effect on one or more dependent variables.

  1. Understand the difference between types of research — qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods-based research.
  2. Develop a research question or hypothesis. This research approach will define which type of research one could choose.
  3. Choose a method for data collection. Depending on the process of data collection, the type of research could be determined.
  4. Analyze and interpret the collected data. Based on the analyzed data, results are reported.
  5. If observed results are not equivalent to expected results, consider using an unbiased research approach or choose both qualitative and quantitative research methods for preferred results.
