For many early-stage and experienced authors, getting published in high-impact SCI- and SSCI-indexed journals is the primary goal of their research career. However, there are several aspects that the authors should consider before embarking on this journey. Our presentation aims to cover all these aspects so that the process is well understood and is easier for the audience. We will first discuss the origins of ISI (the founding institution of SCI/SSCI/AHCI) and the concept of impact factor. We will also discuss the perspectives of different stakeholders in terms of publishing in high-impact indexed journals, namely the author, university, publisher, and funder. This is followed by a detailed explanation of the factors that are actually important for successful publication in high-impact journals, including aspects like choosing your research design, writing and structuring your paper, and selecting the right journal. Finally, we will advise how to deal with reviewer comments, along with some examples of do’s and don’ts as well as constructive steps for the next submission.
