Excessive Alcohol Consumption Causes Changes in DNA!

Addiction to alcohol is a major issue among several. People have to visit rehabilitation centers regularly to quit drinking permanently. Researchers have come up with an observation that might give us more reasons to worry. According to the researchers at Rutger’s University, people who drink heavily might be having a gene mutation. This mutation in the DNA is possibly increasing the craving for alcohol and in turn making them drink more. The scientists at Rutger’s and Yale did a study together and identified two genes PER2 and POMC that regulate the behavior after drinking. They observed that these genes showed certain changes in case of heavy drinkers, which increased with higher alcohol intake. Their desire for alcohol also showed considerable increase.
