Sony Group Corporation and the prestigious scientific journal Nature have collaborated to launch the inaugural “Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature.” This annual award aims to recognize and celebrate the exceptional contributions of women researchers in the fields of science, engineering, and mathematics.

Championing Diversity in Tech

Despite advancements in technology, women remain significantly underrepresented in the global workforce, constituting less than a third of technology roles. Recognizing the urgent need to address this gender disparity, Sony and Nature have taken a bold step towards championing diversity and inclusivity in the tech industry.

Empowering Women Innovators

The “Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature” seeks to empower early to mid-career women researchers whose ground-breaking work is driving positive change in society and the environment. With a generous prize of USD 250,000 allocated to each of the three winners. Applications for the inaugural edition are open from March 6 through May 31, 2024. Women researchers in technology are encouraged to submit their applications via the official website, where they can find detailed submission guidelines and criteria.

A panel of esteemed technologists, scientists, and experts from around the world, including Nature Editor-in-Chief Dr. Magdalena Skipper and Sony Group Corporation CTO Dr. Hiroaki Kitano, will meticulously evaluate each submission. Applications will be judged on criteria such as ambition, innovation, conceptual excellence, impact, and social significance, ensuring a rigorous and fair selection process.

The award winners, to be announced in early 2025, will have the opportunity to present their research achievements on nature.com, fostering global collaborations. This initiative is part of broader effort to promote diversity and inclusion in creative and technical fields, aiming to recognize and inspire the next generation of women in technology.
