Supervisor: Dr. Balachandran Unni Nair
M. Phil Biochemistry, Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2nd position in University of Madras, Chennai, India University ; Nov.
Thesis: “Isolation and purification of Endo -N acetyl 1998 galactosaminidase from the plasmid cured strain of Salmonella typhimurium”

M.Sc. Biochemistry, Meenakshi College for Women, University of 2nd position in Madras University ; April 1997
B.Sc. Biochemistry, Bharathi Women’s College, University of Madras April 1995
Work Experience Worked as a Post doctoral fellow at College of Engineering, Chungnam National University, Daejeon, South Korea (Dec. 2004-Aug. 2005).
Worked as a Research Associate at Microfluidics and MEMS group, Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (AMPRI), Bhopal (July 2004- Oct. 2004).
Worked as a Post doctoral fellow at Chemical Laboratory, CLRI, Chennai under a New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI) project on development of rare earth colorants through biomimetic routes (April 2003 -Dec. 2003).
Worked as Senior Research Fellow (C.S.I.R.) at Chemical Laboratory, CLRI, Chennai, and worked on “Interaction of Chromium(III) complexes with proteins” which led to the doctoral degree in Biochemistry. An approach was made to understand the interaction of chromium(III) with proteins and glycoproteins in the presence of varied ligand environment and to study the subsequent modifications brought about in the protein structure as a part of this research programme. The crucial finding of the research work was that the ionic character and the surrounding ligand in the metal complex were found to have a profound influence in causing structural alterations, oxidative damage and enzymatic activity of the protein molecule (April 1999 to April 2002).
Worked as a Project Fellow in a DBT sponsored project entitled “Microbial removal of chromium from leather tannery waste water and effluents” at Chemical Laboratory, Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, Chennai. The project work aimed at the removal of chromium(III) and reduction in COD of tannery effluents using Actinomycetes species. The alkalophilic NCIM 5080 and NCIM 5142 were studied in detail and shown to tolerate and accumulate chromium during growth. The cultures were found to bring about significant reduction in COD during growth (70-75%), thereby proving their efficiency to be employed in tannery for the effective removal of chromium and reduction of COD from tannery effluents (January 1999 to June 1999).
Worked as Project Fellow in a project entitled “Expression of antioncogene p53 and oncogene Bcl2 protein in Breast Cancer by Immunohistochemical technique” in the Department of Molecular Oncology, Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai (June 1997 to July 1997).
