<figure class="image"><img src="https://www.enago.com/images/about-us/news/kyorin2013.jpg" alt="kyorin2013"></figure>User conference for ScholarOne Manuscripts (S1M), organized by Thomson Reuters and Kyorinsha The user conference for ScholarOne Manuscripts (S1M) was held on December 14, 2013 (Thursday) by Thomson Reuters and Kyorinsha. This event, held once a year, is intended to share the recent development of journal submission management systems (both regional and international journals) and provide guidance on the efficient use of S1M. Approximately 70 members of secretariats of major Japanese academic societies, including users associated with scholarly journals, attended this conference, which also addressed the latest alternative measurement methods and standards for Impact Factor evaluation. In the latter half of the conference, Ms. Furuya, CEO of Crimson Interactive Pvt. Ltd., Japan presented a lecture on “English for researchers—what kind of support a researcher needs”. The subject of discussion was the challenges faced by Japanese researchers in the effective use of English, even in this age of globalization. During the lecture, Ms. Furuya stressed on the importance of native checks and editing because an English manuscript written by a non-native speaker has certain flaws, for example, some sentences may be long, complicated, and lacking in fluency. She emphasized on how the services offered by Crimson can help authors in enhancing the overall quality of their manuscripts.&nbsp; During a poster session after the lectures, we received overwhelming queries from the members of academic societies, who displayed an increased interest in knowing about English language editing.
