Ulatus Participates at ATA 2015Global Translation Servicer Attends Key Event for the Translation Community
New York: Ulatus, one of the world’s leading providers of translation services to researchers across the globe, recently met with industry peers at the American Translators Association (ATA) annual meeting in Miami, Florida, from November 4–7. The conference, the organization’s 56th annual, serves as a key meeting ground for thousands of professionals engaged in translation and interpreting, from seasoned professionals to students of the craft.
Founded to foster the professional development of individual translators and interpreters, ATA today boasts 11,000 members in more than 90 countries. They include translators, interpreters, teachers, project managers, web and software developers, language company owners, hospitals, universities, and government agencies. The prestigious organization offers a certification exam in 26 language combinations which allows translators to document their abilities objectively. ATA also presents several awards and scholarships during its annual conference to encourage, reward, and publicize outstanding work in the field.
More than 1,500 attendees came to Miami for this year’s event which offered over 175 sessions across 25 different topics, including various languages and specializations. However, “the opportunity to network is one of the biggest draws,” said ATA’s President-Elect, David Rumsey. “For many people, this means reconnecting with old friends—the people who understand you and the challenges you face as a translator or interpreter. But there are excellent opportunities to network with both clients as well as other translators and interpreters through innovative events like Brainstorm Networking and the Résumé Exchange.”
“The American Translation Association’s annual conference is a uniquely energized, fun atmosphere in which colleagues old and new can connect across geography and language,” said Gregory Loxton, vice president of North American operations at Crimson Interactive, Ulatus’s parent company, who attended the event. “ATA says that ‘everyone you hope to see and meet will be there,’ and it’s true. The event provided many forums in which attendees shared knowledge and experience in discussing common scenarios; we broadened our understanding of each other and of our collective mission to help people communicate across borders.”
