Open-access repositories or archives are intended for researchers to contribute the results of their research. This builds up an information and knowledge bank that is easily, and in most instances, freely accessible to everybody.
The term Open Access encompasses a variety of research contributions intended for dissemination to the research community. These can be broadly classified into two types:
(1) Open Access journals
(2) Open Access repositories or archives
Open access publishing has grown tremendously in the past decade. Between 15-20 percent of journals are now published under the open-access model. The majority of researchers are unaware of the extent of the strides in open-access publishing. Researchers have the option of showcasing their work in Open-Access Journals or can contribute to Open-Access Repositories/Archives.
