New York, USA<\/strong>: Enago is pleased to announce that several members of its expert editorial team are now \u201cELS\u201d! An acronym for \u201cEditor in the Life Sciences,\u201d the ELS certification is bestowed by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences<\/a> (BELS), which conducts the exam three times a year in various locations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia.<\/p>\n BELS was officially founded in Maryland in 1991 to provide a much-needed objective measure of editorial skills in the life sciences such as biology and medicine. With the assistance of the members of BELS, a three-hour exam is conducted, which helps evaluate an individual\u2019s proficiency in academic editing<\/a>. To be eligible, applicants must have a bachelor\u2019s degree (or its equivalent) and at least two years of experience as a manuscript editor in the life sciences. Those editors who pass the exam get a lifetime certification from BELS.<\/p>\n As part of its learning and development (L&D) initiative for its editors, this year Enago selected some of the members to appear for the BELS certification exam. Enago\u2019s L&D team was constantly involved in the preparation process and independently handled the application process so that its editors could focus on their daily editing work, which, according to BELS, is the \u201cbest preparation\u201d for the exam. \u201cEnago has successfully grown into one of the STEM industry\u2019s leading language-solutions providers, due, in no small part, to our robust internal training programs,\u201d said Anupama Kapadia<\/a>, Senior Manager, Editorial Operations, Enago. \u201c<\/em>We aim at not only preparing our editors for the finer aspects of academic editing<\/a> but also increasing their awareness of the STEM industry and providing holistic support to their professional growth potential. Through BELS certification, we sought to give our editors an opportunity to be part of a global entity and facilitate the dissemination of standardized knowledge to their editorial peers.
