About Michael Willis<\/h2>\n

Michael Willis is Senior Manager, Peer Review<\/a>, at a leading publisher and is responsible for overseeing their peer review operations. He has 11 years’ experience of managing editorial offices and in-house editorial resources. He began his publishing career with CatchWord (later Ingenta) in processing and developing online journal content for STM publishers. He has been a member of the ISMTE<\/a> Board since 2009 and has chaired the annual European Conference committee in 2011 and 2012. Currently, he is the President of ISMTE and part of the Management Committee at PEERE<\/a> as well as the working group for data sharing and testing.<\/p>\n

About the Interview<\/h2>\n

In this interview series, we will take you through Michael\u2019s journey in the publishing industry and the various challenges of the current system as well as the developments that are taking place to improve the peer review system. Michael also shares some key issues faced by peer reviewers and how it is becoming increasingly important to have a defined training program for peer reviewers. In addition, Michael discusses his role at PEERE and the primary objective behind this initiative.<\/p>\n

In this interview, we also discuss the increase in the number of retractions as well the future challenges for the academic publishing industry and the current system of peer review management. Michael shares his views on how authors should overcome rejection notices issues by journals as well as the need for more number of authors to consider peer reviewing on a regular basis.<\/p>\n
