Now that you\u2019re ready to share your results, your perspective must shift from the world of research to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.enago.com\/academy\/avoiding-conflict-interest-in-peer-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> world of academic publishing<\/a>. Experienced researchers will already have<a href=\"https:\/\/www.enago.com\/academy\/selecting-right-journal-for-publication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> identified the journal<\/a> to which they plan to submit their findings when the study is still in the proposal stage. If you didn\u2019t think that far ahead, and your study generated some significant results, it\u2019s time to select the appropriate audience for those results. This can often seem to be as much work as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enago.com\/academy\/replicate-research-data-with-caution-in-your-research-study\/\">original research<\/a>, if not more.<\/p>\n<h3>Research the Available Journals in Detail<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Review the research specialty and audience base<\/li>\n<li>Check the publication cycle (particularly if your research is topical)<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t pin all your hopes on one journal \u2014\u00a0have a back-up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Follow the Submission<\/h3>\n<p>Journals receive a volume of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enago.com\/submission-preparation.htm\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"18\" title=\"Research paper\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">research paper<\/a> submissions that far exceeds their resources to check and correct every one. Better to find out now than wait for an automatic rejection for failing to follow the journal requirements.<\/li>\n<li><em>Use the submission checklist <\/em>&#8211; Most journals are cognizant of the workload involved in the submission process and usually offer a checklist for you to double and triple-check every item before submission \u2013 use it for your own peace of mind.<\/li>\n<li><em>Use the tracking option (if there is one) and be patient <\/em>&#8211; If there is an option to track your submitted article through the review process, don\u2019t check it every hour!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Three Possible Outcomes<\/h2>\n<p>Your submission will get one of three responses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>accepted as\u00a0it\u00a0is without any changes (rare)<\/li>\n<li>returned with a request to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.enago.com\/academy\/tips-revising-content-structure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revise and re-submit<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>or rejected with occasional notes and feedback (depending on the generosity of the peer reviewers)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Though your emotional reaction will vary according to each type of response, it is helpful to consider all three as positive outcomes.
