We have always known that the bacteria causing any gum disease would be residing in the mouth. However, a group of researchers at a biotech company have come with a different observation. The group of researchers at the Cortexyme Inc. of South San Francisco, California has recently published a study in Science Advances<\/em> that the gum-disease causing bacteria also reside in the brain. They isolated strains of P. gingivalis<\/em> from the brain of Alzheimer deceased and swabbed them on the gums of mice regularly. After about 6 weeks, they observed the same bacteria in the mice brain, along with dying neurons and damaged tau proteins, which is characteristic of Alzheimers. The researchers are yet to find out more about this correlation and any possible cure that could be generated using the same.<\/p>\n
