Well, the chances are less as it is not a very common phenomenon. Researchers at the University of Alabama recently arranged an event, named Digestive Disease Week, wherein they presented on stool donation. They discussed a procedure called Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT). The procedure deals with the transplantation of the microbiota from the fecal matter of a healthy donor’s stool into another recipient’s body. This is mainly used for treating intestinal infections like irritable bowel syndrome and ulcers. The presentation included a 32-questioned survey that reflected the people wanted to donate their stool on humanitarian grounds. FMT is especially useful in curing diseases caused by Clostridium difficile, which has already caused about 29,000 deaths per year in US. Therefore, the concept of FMT, if accepted globally, can pave the way for curing several intestinal infections.

To know more, click here now!

Blood donation is common, but have you heard of stool donation?
