When dealing with animals, approval from an institutional animal care and use committee must be obtained to:

  • Judge if it is necessary to use animals as subjects to test the hypotheses and check the feasibility of other procedures.
  • Determine appropriate sample sizes and procedures used in the experiment.
  • Ensure that the animals are provided proper care.
